What is metal spinning?
Metal spinning begins with a flat sheet, which is sheared to a square. The square is then cut to a circular disc with or without a center hole or hole pattern. The disc is centered and clamped to a mold on a lathe. While the mold is rotating a radiused wheel is pressed gradually against disc and forms it over the mold shape, creating a hollow metal shape similar to pottery.
What shapes can be made with metal spinning?
The art of sheet metal forming to produce products such as hemispheres, domes, cones, funnels, panels, venturi nozzles, parabolas, containers, shades, lids, hubcaps and wheels.
Can non-round shapes be spun?
Yes, as a fan or A/C venturi panel. We can spin direct onto a square up to 60″ x 60″. Oblong shapes can also be produced by metal spinning.
